GM Confirms Turbo Engine for the New Malibu, Could be for the RS or SS Model

At a press event for the introduction of the new 2013 Malibu on Monday, General Motors confirmed the presentation of a turbocharged model to Motor Trend magazine.

Chevrolet officials said that the force-fed variant of the Malibu would be introduced in about a year's time from now, without elaborating further on the specifications of engine or the model trim.

On Thursday, General Motors announced that the Malibu's engineers surpassed the 1 million mile mark of on-road testing, which were accumulated since the first quarter of 2010 on a fleet of about 170 hand-built prototypes on six different continents.

Euro NCAP: Two Chinese Models get 4 Stars for Safety, Malibu and Beetle Awarded with 5 Stars

The results are in for Euro NCAP’s fifth and last launch of 2011. A total of 14 cars were tested including two Chinese newcomers, the MG6 and the Geely Emgrand EC7, both of which achieved a four star rating, proving that at least some Chinese brands are starting to take safety seriously.

Michiel van Ratingen, Euro NCAP Secretary General commented: "These results mark a milestone for the Chinese automotive industry. It is a clear sign that Chinese car makers are building on recent experiences and rapidly investing in better vehicle safety. Even with the upcoming increased demands, five stars are expected to be within reach soon."

Four more vehicles that are new were given a four-star rating, including the Fiat Panda, Jeep Grand Cherokee, Jaguar XF and the EV Renault Fluence ZE.

New 38MPG 2013 Chevrolet Malibu Eco Priced at $25,995

Even though the new 2013 Chevrolet Malibu won't be hitting showrooms before the first quarter next year, General Motors is already trying to get buyers interested by announcing pricing for the new 38mpg/highway Eco model, which will start from $25,995 including a $760 destination charge.

Billed as the most fuel-efficient Malibu ever, the Eco is the first Chevy to feature GM's eAssist mild-hybrid tech that utilizes a lithium-ion battery and an electric motor-generator to enable regenerative braking, electric assist and start-stop functionality.
